Marketing 101: A Beginner’s Guide towards Understanding Instagram

Covid brought a lot of changes in our lives. Zoom became our default meeting room, and webinars were our regular events. However, the most crucial difference was how social media transformed into our go-to place to learn, upskill, and grow our brands. It has enabled marketers to connect and engage with their
target audience, who are regularly on their phones.

However, when marketing a brand, Instagram seems to be the winner with its minimalist format. It holds massive opportunities for e-commerce businesses
looking to showcase their products and provide them with a place to build brand awareness and connect with new audiences.

That’s where this blog comes in handy. We have interviewed some Instagram content creators to pick their brains on what they did differently to stand out from the clutter. Below mentioned are some pointers which, according to them, are very crucial.

So, how can you build a Digital Brand?

·       There’s nothing new to be told on social media

Pick up your phone and start scrolling content creators across industries. You will notice that there is nothing new to be told to the audience; every influencer from a particular industry is teaching the same knowledge that has been in the books for ages.

But what makes any content creator different is how they present it. Some prefer telling it through visual stories, whereas others prefer illustrations or carousel pictures to connect with their audience. Focus on making your posts appealing through any mode you may prefer.

Do what you love, find a niche

Just because your cousin’s food blogging page was a big hit doesn’t mean you’ll end up being a viral food blogger as well. You may start feeling burnout if you pick a topic that doesn’t align with your interests. Explore your interests and create a list of hobbies that interests you. Once this list is sorted, give each hobby some thought and think about how you can add value and provide some learnings to the audience. Make sure you choose the category wisely, as it will determine the flow of content in the long run. A wrong choice could lead to depreciation in the quality of your posts and will eventually affect your statistics too.

      Humanize the Brand

Humanizing the brands is a critical aspect of any social brand wherein we put up content that consumers would like to see rather than the brand selling its value proposition.

Zomato, for example, never sells the proposition of eating out. Instead, it does content marketing like memes around food or arranging competitions involving food, something any food lover would post or would like to see. It helps the audience connect with the brand and gives a glimpse of the company’s ideology.

·        Value the importance of the user’s follow button

One significant aspect that any budding content creator ignores is the value that any user gives to their follower-to-following ratio. Most Instagram users try to maintain a balance between their followers to following. So what should you do that prompts users to follow your page?

Start providing value through your posts. This value could be anything; a user learning about new underrated songs, a new restaurant in the city, or maybe new aesthetic phone wallpapers. Unless and until the user doesn’t benefit from your page, he/she wouldn’t click that follow button.

·        Start Collaborating

You must have seen that “Promote Post” button on your Instagram, right? “The shortcut to fame and money.” DO NOT CLICK IT. Why put your valuable money to garner audiences which won’t share the same interests as your page?

Instead, start collaborating with a similar category of pages.

Firstly, IT’S FREE. Secondly, it helps your content in reaching the right audience; people who share the same preferences. It will help increase your chances of getting a genuine audience that will appreciate your posts more.

Conclusion

Stop just thinking if you should start a page, how you’ll manage, if people will appreciate your content, how many followers you will get etc etc. It is imperative to start. It may not be perfect from the first day, but trust the process, and you’ll eventually get there.

Focus on embracing your uniqueness while staying true to your passion. Create your own fun and unique brand.

During the hustle, don’t forget to have fun, though. Keep following your passion, and followers will follow.

Stay tuned for our next chapter. Till then, keep creating!
